October 2022 - Harvest:
Recently, I've been binging Tess Gerritsen's books. In my opinion she is a wonderful medical fiction writer who includes specific details that make her books all the more realistic. In Harvest, she describes in parallel, the life of a Russian boy, Yakov, and a doctor, Dr. DiMatteo. The book focuses on the black market for organs in excruciating detail using a mystery to make the book much more interesting.
September 2022 - Born a Crime
This month, we deviate a bit from the "STEM" related books into something a bit more comedic and fun. In Born a Crime, the author, Trevor Noah, writes about his unforgettable and eventful childhood by using a series of anecdotes from his life. Throughout the book he highlights several historical events such as apartheid and Nelson Mandela's release and how these events impacted his life. This book is a great pick for those looking to learn a bit about South Africa's history with an extremely humorous delivery.
August 2022 - Gravity:
Gravity, by Tess Gerritsen is a wonderful pick for sci-fi lovers. This book is set in the ISS (International Space Station), where an experiment on microorganisms goes wrong. The mutated cells begin to infect the ISS crew with deadly results. The protagonist, Emma Watson, needs to find a way to contain and cure her crew of the pathogen.
July 2022 - Change Agent:
For the month of July, I picked one of my favorite books situated around one of my favorite subjects, genetics. Change Agent is a book by Daniel Suarez. This book is set in a dystopian world where CRISPR technology is so advanced, humans can control evolution. In this world, the main character, Interpol Agent Kenneth Durand, gets stuck in the middle of a sticky situation when his DNA is changed to replicate one of the world's most infamous criminals.
